About us

The Project

L'Alternative is an artisan bakery offering breads and pastries made with organic & gluten-free ingredients. The bakery has been offering its products since April 2019.

My story


My name is Pierre and L'Alternative was born out of my passion for pastry-making! Even as a child I used to help my mother make her cakes, crêpes and jams. You could say that I fell into the cauldron a little. This passion has never left me since, and I promised myself I'd make a living from it when I grew up.


Fascinated by baking and the grandson of a baker, I felt that one day I would have to start making bread. That day came when, to top it all off, I learned that I had “coeliac disease”... in other words, a “gluten allergy”. When I heard the news, I was devastated. All my dreams were going up in smoke. But I took it as a life mission. I was going to prove to the world that it's possible to make good bread without that bloody gluten!

Alone, we go faster.

Together, we go further.

Pierre

Founder and manager of L'Alternative, Pierre is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades: developing recipes, making the breads, building the website, delivering the products - nothing scares him, or almost nothing...

Judith

Officially a secondary school language teacher, my little wife is often there to lend us a hand in the workshop and to serve you at the counter. We're really lucky to have her with us since 2019.

Thao

After completing her last baking and pastry-making course with us in 2021, Thao quickly joined the team. She's the one who makes your breads and pastries.

Favourite dessert: chestnut fondant​

Alix

Inseparable from her best friend Thao, we had to hire her right away. Since 2022, she has also been making your breads and pastries.​

Pauline

Inseparable from her best friend Thao, we had to hire her right away. Since 2022, she has also been making your breads and pastries.

Favourite dessert: raspberry pie

Justin

Justin is my very first student. Passionate about pastry-making, he has been helping me with my pastry-making and baking since 2020. He hasn't left us since.

Favourite dessert: Paris-Brest​

Claire

Claire has been helping us out since 2024. In October she decided to come and work full-time with us. Her tasks are varied: making bread, packing orders, cleaning... All with great precision.

Favourite dessert: strawberry crunchy pie

Béatrice

Our precious delivery girl since 2023. She delivers our products to Namur, Charleroi, Brussels...

Favourite dessert: rice pudding pie

The workshop


After sharing the beautiful Au four et au jardin studio in Liège for a year and a half, L'Alternative is now occupying its own studio in the countryside.
